Helicopters at MIT today

At about 12:15 or so I was walking across the Mass Ave bridge and saw two military-ish looking helicopters coming towards the Charles from the north. I watched them slow down and do a big arcing turn towards Cambridge, and watched as they landed either on or near MIT's campus on the left side of the bridge looking towards Cambridge, near a parking garage. Does anyone know what this was for?

I saw the choppers on the way out about 1 pm, headed south. Two Blackhawk helicopters with medical evac insignia on them.

No further information. That is all.

i'm pretty sure i saw 2 pairs of them flying over the fenway area, and then later on in the distance by longwood. i almost crashed my convertible staring at them as they flew over me when i was in kenmore square.

It was some sort of recruiting exercise for either the Army or aero industry or both. There's been a poster in the lobby of 77 Mass Ave all week advertising free rides in Army helicopters.

That's kinda nifty. If you didn't have to sign up to do it, I would have totally convinced them I was interested, gotten the ride, then said "nah...".

I videotapes those two helicopters. They had the red cross markings of a rescue copter, but were without a doubt military Hueys.

I don't know why they were flying in formation, but I do know that they crossed the river together back and forth from Cambridge to Boston at least three times.

Interesting, because the ones I saw were most definitely Blackhawks. I haven't seen military Hueys in a long time (though there probably are some in the National Guard inventory somewhere).
