just another star in the sky ([info]littlestarletta) wrote in [info]b0st0n,

It's not Friday without MBTA problems...

MBTA warning that won't probably get picked up by the media for a while...

A woman at my work just sent out an e-mail saying that her son is an MBTA police officer and told her that the communications center at High Street has lost it's ability to communicate with all trains and buses (commuter rail excluded). All of the T Stations are already starting to get crowded with hundreds of people and there are delays system wide.

edit:  Looks like in the comments someone wrote that they waited at Central Station for an hour just to be told that they were NO TRAINS RUNNING.  WOW.

edit 2 (4:53pm): Original person sent out an e-mail saying the trains are running but there are still delays

I have no idea - I'm just trying to give you guys an early warning. I guess just check MBTA.COM to see what they say whenever they decide to announce it.

Yeah, I ended up not actually going into the office, after I waited for an hour plus at the Central station, only to have someone come downstairs and yell "No train service!" without any further info or instructions.

Ugh.

Here's the statement I received @ work:

We have just been informed by the MBTA that they are experiencing a power outage across their entire transit system. They are working on resolving this issue. In the meantime, you may experience delays on any of the MBTA transit systems. When we get further information, we will send out another update.

If there ever was a time to go out drinking after work...might as well be today.

Clearly the Zombie attack is starting in Massachusetts. There have been really bad smells at the Park Street station, with people worrying that something may explode, and lots of confused trains.

apparently the B line is up and running (as viewed from the 16th floor of the BU law tower).

god forbid we have any BU students walking from BU East to Central.

Hey now...those BU females have it TOUGH, having to walk in their mini-skirts and stilettos. You don't want to make them walk one extra block now, do you?

Crap. My friend just called me to chat after waiting for a bus running 40 minutes late. It did finally come, though, so at least some buses are operating (I don't know which one... sorry). And of course today is the day that I've asked my suburb-dwelling friends to come into Boston and celebrate my birthday. They're gonna be pissed.

I wondered when that I would get on b0st0n. My husband called to tell me about it, and since we figured out yesterday that you work in the same place as him, I thought you might post. Thanks for the info. :-)

haha funny. I called my fiance and asked him to pick me up. :) I use the red line so I pretty much have no hope.

I called my boyfriend to complain about the T situation, he is in the copley area, so he walked over to the copleyd train station to ask about delays and the T driver laughed and said there have been no delays all he, he didn't know what he was talking about... what the hell is going on?? the trains through copley were apprently running...someone is confused somewhere!

[info]professorglum

September 7 2007, 19:57:33 UTC 4 years ago

Seems the consensus is the green line is doing A-OK so far. Trust me, though, red line ainn't moving (or at least it wasn't half an hour ago when I walked home after waiting in vain for entirely too long).

Smart Traveler reports it. It says condition: ok, but then it says delays on all lines. Hmm.

September 7 2007, 20:08:29 UTC 4 years ago

Ha! I love how it says to go to MBTA.com for more information. On a whim I clicked through and the MBTA helpfully told me that I can now bring my bike to the beach until Columbus Day.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand what the communication system has to do with the bus driver knowing his schedule. Then again, when do they ever seem to care...

[info]ttelracs

September 7 2007, 20:59:09 UTC 4 years ago

Well I'm guessing with no communication system they can't communicate with each other to make sure no one will hit each other if there are shared rails ... what it has to do with the buses I don't know.

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_region/breaking_news/2007/09/t_running_again.html

I waited about 10 minutes at Kendall Outbound around 5:50pm, and the first car had the normal amount of crowd for this time of day. The platform was a bit more crowded than usual though. There weren't any extra delays in getting to the stops through Davis, and it didn't go express.

An hour and a half for me too! And I thought I'd set a record. It took twenty-five minutes for the first red line train to arrive.

More:

The Blue Line was still down as of Saturday morning, 8 AM. Busses from Government Center to the airport. Have fun schlepping your luggage.

And, yesterday, the UpChuck automatic ticket machines (at least in the two stops where I tried them) weren't accepting anything but cash, and some of the machines weren't even printing passes.
