the circle closes

Okay [info]b0st0n people, its flash mob time. Expect it is going to well planned and coordinated, and "well planned meetup for a specific purpose group" is too long of a title. As per this discussion it seems like this is something that we could actually do. It would be in honor of our patron Saint [info]ron_newman and it could actually make a difference at the MBTA (and by extension, mbta.com).

Its like a circle has been completed. Oh, we might even get some wicked cool press coverage if enough people show up.

I'd say lets give ourselves a couple of weeks to gather MBTA discarded passes and then all show up at the same time at the downtown crossing location.

Is this something people want to do?

EDIT: The downtown crossing office is not open on Saturday. If we do this it will have to be during the week and we don't want to do it right at the end of the month (cause that would just really piss everyone off, not just the MBTA). How about Wednesday the 21st at 12 noon? I can be there during my lunch hour as I work in the financial district. Again, people will have to provide some sort of entertainment cause otherwise, this will just be standing in a line and that frankly is sorta boring.

A cool idea, but please make sure the tickets you're bringing actually have value.

(To find out if a ticket has value, just stick it into a fare vending machine and look at the screen, then hit "Cancel" to get your ticket back)

My one question is.. How do you find these cards?

Look near an escalator (They seem to accumulate near the bottom), or near a trash can on the platform. I see three or four near every trash can every time I take the red line.

They are often thrown on the floor near gates or vending machines. Sometimes they are left on top of the gates.

I'd love to participate, however my work schedule is atypical. At worst, I can collect tickets on my day(s) off and hand them off to someone else who doesn't work weekends.

Unfortunately the office is not open on Saturdays. I'd also advise avoiding the last few and first few days of the month, because that's when people are buying passes. We don't want to get in the way of ordinary commuters.

Well, that takes me out of it unless we do it during lunch time.

But when I think about it, we are going to have to have some form of entertainment while standing in line cause otherwise, this will just be kinda boring ;)

i'm sorry, you fail.

"T employees on duty" is an oxymoron.

i'd vote for thursday over wednesday, but i'll see what i can do...
is the objective here to continue in [info]ron_newman style and take advantage of otherwise wasted charliecard funds? or is this more about the spectacle?

either way i am probably not going to be able to make it unless everyone shifts to thursday (which i don't expect) so... good luck, have fun, and i'll join you all if i can. :)

I third(?) that!

We should one by one demand a random drink that the bar doesn't have, then drink there or somewhere else, and then come back to see if they got the drink next week and start the whole thing over again. Ok, not so flash mob, but very amusing to me...but it could be because it's 1:30 am.

I work in Quincy, and couldn't do a week day lunch thing.

What if we meet up to give the cards to one person?
Ah darn, defeats the press coverage...

I'll see what I can round up, and if I can get them to someone so the money is still helping people.

If people want to do this, I'll participate in some way, but I won't lead it or organize it.

I see three purposes to this activity:

- show the T that they need to put an "add ticket value to card" function on their vending machines
- show the public that they should not throw away tickets with unused value
- give the otherwise-wasted ticket value to people who can use it
